Changes to the SOL and CSOL

Every year the Department of Immigration and Border Protection releases two lists of occupations that determine whether you can enter into the country under any of the skilled visas (189, 190, 457, 186, 187, 489) or the occupational trainee visa (402).

Overview

The first list is called the SOL (Skilled Occupation List).  This document enlists occupation that are highly in demand in Australia. If you find your role in this list and you pass the migration points requirement (60 points for this financial year), then you can apply for a Permanent Residency visa independently.

CSOL stands for the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List.  This list includes the roles on SOL and all other occupations that are also in demand in Australia.  If you find your occupation in CSOL and not on SOL, then you will need an employer or a state sponsor before you can apply for a PR visa even if you have passed the required migration points.
